Contest, you say? *UPDATED*

Are you one of those people that never win anything? I know, me too. I did win tickets to see Mighty Ducks 2 when I was in first grade, for this sweet joke I submitted to the Denver Post. But you know, that doesn't really count. I had to go with my parents. And I think my sister got to go too, so really, that was a shared victory, and not something to call my own.

BUT I DIGRESS. Here's your chance to finally win big. We're going to give away the following:

1 Shoot 'Em Up T-Shirt (in whatever size you want)
1 Brains/Walking Into Me on 7" 45RPM Vinyl (just released, featuring 2 songs from our upcoming album)
1 Dmitrij Dmitrij EP on 12" 45 rpm Vinyl
1 Dmitrij Dmitrij EP CD
1 "Oh No! Oh My!" CD
2 Oh No Oh My Beer Coozys
A bunch of Oh No Oh My temporary tattoos and buttons/pins/badges/whatever you want to call them
1 spot on the guest list to any one of our shows IN THE ENTIRE WORLD

HOLY CRAP THAT'S AWESOME. How do you have to do in exchange for such an awesome prize package?? Make us a tour poster! To summarize what we're looking for:

11x17 Poster
Preferably 1-2 Colors (in case it's so awesome that we decide have it screen printed but if you feel your vision needs full color, then I guess that would be okay...)
300 DPI
Must have "Oh No Oh My" on it **No Exclamation Points** (Oh No Oh My is our name "Oh No! Oh My! is an album title)
Must be completely original design (please don't take from other peoples work, or any of our own former band designs/logos)
No photographs (remember, we'd like to screen print it, possibly)
Please nothing cute, or precious, or things like that.
Simple is good.

Send a smaller file version of your entry (something like 550x850 pixels) to daniel@ohnoohmy.com by August 22nd with the subject "Poster Contest" and YOU'LL BE ON YOUR WAY TO GLORIOUS PRIZES. If for some reason we get multiple cool entries, we might pick more than one winner!

If you have any other questions leave a comment or email me!

Whew! SXSW is over and my fair city is finally back to normal, my old and new friends are all back home, and my small house seems strangely empty now that there isn't anybody sleeping on the living room floor. Sorry for the lack of blog posts as of late, we have no excuse. But guess who is going to mix their new album in April?????

Getting There.

Last week's leg in the studio was very productive! As for now we have gotten all of the drums tracked. I know that doesn't sound like much but believe you me that is a big step! It means that we have all the songs arranged, the direction has been decided, and there is no going back. Actually there is going back, we could re-record all the drums if we wanted, maybe nobody else in the entire world will like that we are now a prog rock jam band. (we are not a prog rock jam band) and that the entire album was produced by Ziggy Marley (no, it wasn't). So yeah. We can do WHATEVER WE WANT.

We have a lot of the basic tracks like bass and rhythm guitars and such. So I guess what I'm trying to say is we're getting there! This next month will be very important. There is no textbook for how long the bass solo should be, or which rapper will guest appear in which song. Things like this take time, and time doesn't grow on trees. But in the tiniest and most inconsequential part of the course of the human race, amidst earthquakes, wars, shady politicians, NBC's horrible decisions and the final season of LOST, Oh No Oh My is writing their new album, and their goal is to be done recording by SXSW 2010. Thats like a month and a half! Now there's no guarantee we will make it, and the album would still need to be mixed, and then mastered. But that stuff is boring, and there won't be any video's of us sitting around demanding for more phaser on the vocals. Cause thats like a given.

So yeah, the light at the end of this "finish the album" tunnel is growing larger every day. Our goal is mid March. yeah!

My 10 Favorite Things I've Listened To In The Year Preceding 2010:

I thought I would make a short list of my favorite music this past year. You'll notice a lack of "new" releases, as the only album I bought last year that also released last year was Bat For Lashes. Anyway, this is the music I've been listening to that's been inspiring me over the past year, with highlights noted in parenthesis.

1. Ella Fitzgerald - Sings The Jerome Kern Songbook (and pretty much any other songbook, but my definite favorite song is "Why Was I Born?')

2. The Beatles in Mono (Can't choose just one album, but my favorite song at the moment is "Martha My Dear")

3. Yo La Tengo - I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One (Sugarcube...sooooo goooooood)

4. Burl Ives (just in general, but "Lavender Blue (Dilly Dilly)" and "Buckeye Jim" are highlights)

5. Serge Gainsbourg - Histoire De Melody Nelson (I love it all)

6. Bat For Lashes - Two Suns ("Siren Song" and obviously, "Daniel" are great)

7. Yo La Tengo - And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out

8. The Zombies - Odyssey and Oracle ("Care of Cell 44")

9. Nico - Chelsea Girl

10. Joanna Newsom - "Sprout and the Bean" & "Peach, Plum, Pear"

Honorable Mentions:
Donovan - Jennifer Juniper
Miley Cyrus - Party In The USA
R. Kelly - Trapped in a Closet (Parts 1-13
)
